Making a Cable

Making a cable is a fairly simple task. Some cables are made slightly different and may include a thin four-quadrant plastic shield to separate the 4 pairs. Regardless the standard that should be followed for the arrangement of the wires is shown below. For our/most purposes, only the T-568B standard is used.

With a good set of cable crimpers, you should have a wire stripper blade attached to it. Strip back the plastic sheath. Separate all wires until they are fanned out individually. Make sure you match up the exposed wire length to a plastic crimp so you don’t have too much exposure or too little exposure to actually fit. Arrange the wires according to the diagram above. Insert them into the crimp. Insert into the “8p” slot on the crimper tool and squeeze. This will press all 8 gold pins down into the wires.

Next, we will test the cable to ensure the wires are properly connected.
